Myers swerves down the private road and comes to a stop at the new construction.

The site is near the water, a bit isolated in the outskirts of Boston. But it has great potential.

“I don’t see any workers, sir,” Myers discerns.

“Yeah, the developer told me no work’s going on today,” I explain. “Bryson says it’s fine to check it out.”

“I thought Bryson was involved in the private jets business,” Trisha mutters. “How did he come in contact with this developer?”

“He learned about it from the papers.”

“I see.”

“Are you sure it’s safe inside?” Myers confirms, peering out the window at the building.

“It’s close to completion. The structure is sturdy.” I open the door to get out, telling them, “Come on.”

An unsettling vibe hits my core, but I dismiss it.

Trisha stays close to my side while Myers shadows us into the building.

There’s plastic strewn all over. For the most part, the flooring and wall look great, so does the metallic staircase. They’ve installed elevators, but I doubt we should risk using them.

“What would your father lease this building for should he purchase it?” Trisha inquires while looking around.

“Offices. Maybe a shopping boutique. Assuming they designed each level the same, there’s ample space in the building for stores.”

“I like the location,” she adds. “I think it’s more suitable to use as office space.”

“Yeah?”

“Mmhm. Maybe for a law firm or realtor group.” She throws me a playful wink at the last part.

“Something to consider,” I smirk, then climb the stairs with her to the second level, moving plastic aside for us to enter.

There’s a large opening where a window should be, but the construction workers built a railing for safety.

Sunbeams pour into the area, highlighting Trisha’s undeniable beauty. My stomach clenches out of sheer amazement when she turns to me.

This woman is indeed a goddess.

“One more night,” I rasp.

That makes her giggle. “Alexander, we’ve talked about this. I’ll be fine back at my apartment.”

I inch closer and caress her smooth as honey brown skin. “What if I got used to you at the penthouse? It feels so good with you there.”

“I bet it does.” A gentle whimper trickles from her lips as if my words tempt her. With a shake of her head, she refutes, “We shouldn’t live together in the early stages of a relationship. It could cause issues, and we might fall apart before truly getting to know each other.”

I release a long sigh and trace her jawline. “I understand. I’ll take you home later and make sure you’re secure before I leave.”

She smiles in return. “Such a sweet man.”

I’m about to pull her in for a kiss, but a sudden chill slides down my back and calms the hunger.

It’s so unbearably quiet.

Something feels off.

As if detecting the same thing, Trisha creases her forehead with worry.

My heart rate spikes.

Just as I twist to Myers, he snaps his head to me and yells, “Down!”

I drag Trisha behind a container as gunshots rain into the building.
